February 19, 2005 - Parked at Amicalola Falls State Park. Set off on the Southern Terminus Approach Trail (to Springer Mountain) at 9:20am. Hiked out 5.5 miles, and was getting sore, so I stopped and had lunch. Turned around and started the return trip at 12:30pm. I intended to hike the full 8.4 miles out to Springer and back, but it's been too long since I've been hiking, and I decided not to push it. Got back to my starting point at 2:50pm. Strenuous trail with lots of up/down, but surprisingly level in some spots. Total mileage: 11 miles. Total time (including stops): 5.5 hours. Average speed: 2 mph.
